I’m born and raised in Alberta, Canada and I’ve been making jewelry of some kind or another since I was a little kid (you should see how much my mom has gotten as gifts over the decades!) A few years ago I took a class on making special type of wire chain based on an old Norse technique called Viking Knit and fell in love with it. I love the combination of strength and delicacy in it, and since I have Norweigan heritage it’s really cool doing something that reflects that.
I also moved from there into other types of wire wrapped jewelry using semi-precious beads and cabochons, usually with patinaed and then hand polished and finished copper wire, and some with coloured tarnish resistant wire. Getting to figure out the best ways to emphasize the beauty in the semi-precious stones I work with is an enjoyable challenge, and incredibly rewarding when it all comes together.
